Interlibrary Loan At Your Library

Have you ever come into your local library branch looking for a very specific title, only to be disappointed to learn that the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System doesn't own any copies of it? Maybe the book you're after is an older title, no longer in print. Or perhaps it's on a very specific subject outside of the scope of a public library's collection. There are various reasons why our library system might not own a specific book, but even when that's the case we will do our best to get that book in your hands! An interlibrary loan is a transaction in which the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System borrows materials from another library system on behalf of a patron. The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System provides interlibrary loan services in order to enhance and extend the resources available to its users. You may request an interlibrary loan if a book, magazine or journal article you are seeking is not owned by any branches of the library. This service is often free, but sometimes there is a charge for photocopied materials or for rare, hard-to-find items held by only a few libraries.

There are a few guidelines that must be followed when requesting something via interlibrary loan.
  1. Patrons must have an updated and valid Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System library card.
  2. Library card account cannot have any lost items or excessive fines. Check your account by logging on via our website
  3. A patron may make up to 7 requests at one time; this includes requests already submitted but that have yet to be completed.
  4. Fill out a separate request form for each book and/or photocopied article.
  5. Required field (*) information must be provided.
  6. Adhere to lending library due dates. Return items on time so that lending libraries will continue to offer this service.
  7. Renew interlibrary loan materials 7 days prior to due date by calling 404.730.1937.
Use the Book Request Form to complete your request. The more information you can find and include about the book, the easier and  faster your request will be to process! If for some reason we cannot obtain a book for you, you will be notified by our Interlibrary Loan Office. For further information you can contact them with the information below. We hope you enjoy this service of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System!
