This week the Pulitzer Prizes, an institution that has been awarding excellence in journalism and the arts since 1917, were announced for the current year. This year's winners are no less diverse or deserving than in years past and include some of the following:

HISTORY - The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery by Eric Foner
BIOGRAPHY - Washington: A Life by Ron Chernow
POETRY - The Best of It: New and Selected Poems by Kay Ryan
DRAMA - Clybourne Park by Bruce Norris
